Santa Barbara County Special Education Local Plan Area (SB-SELPA) - Santa Barbara County Special Education Local Plan Area (SB-SELPA) is located on the central coast of California, with offices in several locations throughout Santa Barbara County SB-SELPA provides oversight, guidance, training and support to member local education agencies (LEAs), parents, guardians, and the community related to identifying and providing compliant, best practice Individualized Education Plan (IEP) services to students with disabilities. SB-SELPA is a mandated agency by the California Department of Education that is responsible for implementation and oversight of the SB-SELPA Local Plan. The SB-SELPA Local Plan ensures that individuals with disabilities receive a free and appropriate public education as per the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act PL 94-142 amended by PL 108-446 (Regulations 34CFR parts 300 and 301) and California Laws and Regulations (California Special Education Programs: A Composite of Laws Database). SB-SELPA is governed by a Joint Powers Agency (JPA) board comprised of superintendents from Local Education Agencies (LEAs)/districts in Santa Barbara County SELPA and the Santa Barbara County Superintendent of Instruction. SB-SELPA encompasses the 20 school districts, Santa Barbara County Education Office, and two charter schools.
University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) – The Gevirtz Graduate School includes graduate programs in the Department of Education and the Department of Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology. The School Psychology program is within the Department of Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology (CCSP). The School Psychology Program prepares students to be eligible to practice independent psychology and to become credentialed / certified school psychologists. The School Psychology Program includes seven core faculty members. The faculty contribute their expertise to interns through presentations, consultation, and as well as supervision experiences.

Carpinteria Unified School District (CUSD). The mission of the Carpinteria Unified School District, in partnership with the community and parents, believes that all students can learn and are capable of being successful in our diverse society. We are committed to providing a quality educational program in a caring, positive environment which promotes self-esteem and mutual respect. This will provide our students the necessary skills to be responsible citizens, to lead to happy, productive lives and to meet the exciting challenges of the 21st century. The Carpinteria Unified School District (CUSD) provides public education services to students in the Carpinteria Valley, with district boundaries reaching south to the Ventura County line and north to the community of Summerland. The District, serving approximately 2200 grades TK-12 students, has nine schools – one comprehensive high school, two small alternative high schools, one middle school, and four elementary schools. Eight of the nine schools are located within the Carpinteria city limits. One elementary school is located in Summerland. Carpinteria is a small, Southern California beach community 12 miles southeast of Santa Barbara and 20 miles northwest of Ventura. With a population of approximately 20,000, Carpinteria is known for its support of the school system and generations of Carpinteria High School alumni still live in town. The students and staff of the District enjoy an amazing amount of public support which is demonstrated through volunteer and mentor programs, fund raising, partnerships with community agencies and business, and very active parent support groups. The district provide specialized educational services to 6 schools. Interns have an opportunity to work with culturally, linguistically, and racially diverse populations of children and families, including Latinx, Black, Native American, Asian, White, and mixed-race.

Lompoc Unified School District (LUSD). The mission of Lompoc Unified School District is for all students to graduate from high school with career and college readiness, prepared to be engaged members of the community. Lompoc Unified serves a student population that includes a dual immersion program, Vandenberg Space Force families, and linguistic and cultural diversity. Psych interns in LUSD would have the opportunity to work with students from various backgrounds, work with student from various disabilities, and work in an environment of educators that cares for the community and their students. Interns would be able to gain experiences with all students, but also choose from various areas of focus (e.g., students with emotional disturbance, students with autism, students experiencing homelessness or other trauma, bilingual students). The goals of the district are 1. Maximizing academic achievement of all students and providing instructional programs and educational opportunities that enable students to meet or exceed the adopted District standards; 2. Promoting positive, effective communication among our community, District, students, staff and stakeholders; 3. Developing the capacity of all staff to meet the academic needs of all of our students through ongoing professional development and collaboration; 4. Providing a safe and respectful learning environment where each student, parent/guardian, and staff member is valued; 5. Excellence in education and awareness of Board responsibilities to participate in annual professional learning, maintain ongoing review and development of pertinent policies, and monitor student and system performance; and 6. Updating and improving District-wide infrastructure. LUSD provides educational services to sixteen K-12 schools. The district provide specialized educational services to 16 schools (over 9,000 students). Interns have an opportunity to work with culturally, linguistically, and racially diverse populations of children and families, including Latinx, Black, Native American, Asian, White, and mixed-race.

Santa Barbara County Education Office (SBCEO) - The Santa Barbara County Education Office provides service and leadership to 20 public school districts and 10 charter schools. SBCEO offers 200 distinct programs and services in support of nearly 70,000 children throughout Santa Barbara County. Our local partnerships, non-profits, and programs reflect a collective community belief in the value of public education. County offices support local school districts by providing services that can be delivered more efficiently and economically at the county level. These include implementing new standards, staff development and training programs; and performing many other services to meet the changing needs of local school districts. County offices of education also provide a wide range of instructional programs, including special education, early childhood education, career and technical education, programs for youth at risk, and instruction in juvenile detention facilities. The Special Education division of the Santa Barbara County Education Office is comprised of several departments that provide services to students with unique needs. Our programs and services include Early Start, Special Education Preschool, Regional Center, direct service to districts, and WorkAbility. We believe in the voice of the family, the view of the student, and the desire of the community to support students and enhance the student experience and learning. The School Psychology intern will have an opportunity to work with culturally, linguistically, and racially diverse populations of children and families, including Latinx, Black, Native American, Asian, White, and mixed-race. The SBCEO SP intern will work primarily with our special education preschool programs in Lompoc, Orcutt, and Santa Maria. A Spanish bilingual intern is highly desirable.

The district serves over 16,000 students and their families. The district goal is to engage all of its stakeholder groups to create the absolute best educational experience for their students. Santa Maria Joint Union High School District (SMJUHSD) is in Santa Maria operates four high schools (Delta, Ernest Righetti, Santa Maria, and Pioneer Valley). About, 8,000 students are enrolled in this district. The district is dedicated to meeting the personal needs of all students. The mission is to prepare all learners to become productive citizens and college/career ready by providing challenging learning experiences and establishing high expectations for achievement.The district has a diligent staff of caring teachers who engage all students in innovative educational practices to provide them with a quality educational experience. The district continues to anchor our decision-making on the same three critical principles we have before: 1) The safety of students and staff, 2) Student learning and well-being, and 3) Equitable access to a quality program. Santa Ynez Valley Consortium (SYVC) is in the Santa Ynez Valley. The Santa Ynez Valley Special Education Consortium is an association of school districts who work collaboratively to provide special education programs and services to individuals with exceptional needs who reside within the districts that comprise the Santa Ynez Valley Special Education Consortium. The consortium includes 7 school districts; Ballard, Buellton, College, Los Olivos, Santa Ynez Valley, Solvang and Vista Del Mar. The SYVC is committed to providing evidence-based and culturally responsive support services to meet the needs of students with disabilities. SYCV professionals provide direct student support services, as well as consultation to teachers, administrators, and parents. The districts provide specialized educational services to 11 rural schools. Interns have an opportunity to work with culturally, linguistically, and racially diverse populations of children and families, including Latinx, Black, Native American, Asian, White, and mixed-race.
